Welcome

This site is dedicated to FLASHBACK our 1965 Plymouth Belvedere II altered wheelbase 426 Hemi car.  It was conceived, designed, and built as a tribute to the awesome factory A/FX cars that thundered down the dragways in the mid 1960's making history as the first "Funny Cars".

"FLASHBACK" races and exhibits in the Northeast and is registered here in the state of CT.   Partners Gary Gerard and builder Bill Atwood of Auto Service of Old Saybrook invite you to bookmark this site and follow the progress of FLASHBACK and to come see the car at car shows and cruise nights in the Connecticut area.

                  Installing a 6-Point Roll Bar

Altered wheelbase cars are subjected to lots of stress and strain. In addition to the usual torsional loads induced by a high powered Hemi, Cammer of other Match Bash mill, the very fact the body structure and frame have been sliced and diced for better weight distribution creates a need for better reinforcement.

In the case of our Rampage ’63 Dart tribute car, we’re planning to run at the strip soon so it’s time to install a roll bar. Not only will it satisfy the safety-minded track officials and potentially save our bacon in a mishap, it’ll some extra rigidity to the unibody to reduce flexing under full load. According to the NHRA rule book, if it’s a full body car, you need to add a 6-point roll bar as soon as you break the 11.99 threshold in the quarter (or 7.49 in the eighth). If you’re racing a convertible, a 6-point roll bar becomes mandatory as soon as you break the 13.99 mark (8.59 in the eighth).

We’re expecting to run low-elevens so picked up a Competition Engineering roll bar kits. Follow along as Dale Snoke of the Funny Car Farm makes the car legal for some drag strip traction action.

Progress on Gold Digger

The undercarriage is painted. Strange made a nice set of racing brakes for the straight axle spindle and I fitted the Pro Trans with trans and flex plate shields in the car. Brake lines are bent and in. Fuel injection pump drive is modified to fit with my engine plate and the front fuel tank should be here by the weekend.

Attention AFXers

After much deliberation and some encouragement, we are expanding the scope of this web site to serve as a meeting place for like-minded AWB, AFX, S/S, 60's drag racers and show cars from the mid-atlantic and north east US.  There are a bunch of us who are doing our own thing (and loving it!), but would also like to see who else is out there.   By knowing each other we can set up match races, demonstrations, events, and shows to celebrate our place in the glory days of drag racing and to bring that extitement to new fans.
